I’m working for a vibrant city we can all afford

I'm Geordie Rogers, your Wellington City Councillor for the Pukehīnau/Lambton Ward, first elected in the 2024 by-election and re-elected in 2025.

My experience studying, working, and renting here in Wellington demonstrated to me that local government needed to do more on housing, transport, and the vibrancy of our city centre — so I ran for Council.

Since being elected, I've:

  • Decarbonised our swimming pools - moving them off natural gas and onto renewable energy, cutting emissions and saving ratepayers money.

  • Increased the number of affordable homes in the Te Kāinga programme’s target from 1,000 to 1,500 units by 2033.

  • Developed our city safety programme, which is successfully minimising harm and reducing homelessness in our capital with a compassion first approach.

I currently chair Te Takere, the Regulatory Processes Committee, which oversees cycleways, parking, and road closures for the events that Wellington is known for.

I’m also on the board of Wheako Pōneke - Experience Wellington which runs our cities most iconic venues like the City Gallery, Capital-E, and the Wellington Museum
