A vibrant city we can all afford
MY COMMITMENT TO YOU
Affordable housing in the heart of our city
Too many Wellingtonians are spending the majority of their income just on housing. If we want our city to be affordable for everyone we need thousands more homes in the heart of our city.
We’ve already doubled the number of affordable homes provided by the Council and I’m committed to extending it further. Adding 1500 affordable apartments to the heart of Wellington will bring it back to life, and pressure landlords to lower prices across the city.
A city people are excited to move to, not leave
People don’t see their future in Wellington and that needs to change. Young Wellingtonians are voting with their feet and moving to cities that invest in their public spaces, are easy to get around and have fantastic career prospects.
If we want a vibrant city we need to invest in our public spaces. Enabling parkelts, revitalising the Golden Mile, and improving the safety of our city centre are all needed if we want to be a world-class capital.
A connected, climate resilient city
We’re a city of walkers, cyclists, and bus users. We need a network that works for us. That means better footpaths, cycle lanes, and bus lanes to speed up the way we move around our city.
If we want to tackle climate change head on we need to be making it easier to get around the city on a bus, bike, or by foot. Building a second bus spine will not only speed up our buses, but it will also make it easier to run buses more frequently without an increase in price.
